A few words about the artist and the
SUNSHINE ART PRINT COLLECTION
In high school - I did my first sky diving. It was quite an amazing experience. You forget everytning that is on your mind - it is only you & the sky, looking down from a different perspective & surrounded by shining sun light.The sun smiled at me. To this day I remember the bright sparkling glare of sunlight and it felt like a warm caress - an extraordinary feeling of warmth and light on my face.
This early memories has left a deep impression in my heart.
In my artwork I go back over and over again to the theme of bright sunlight which to me has a lot to do with emotional closeness, love & togetherness.
I grew up lonely as a child. We lived in a small condo and my mom was at work all day and my dad lived and work in a different city. I didn't do well in kindergarten so my mother used to leave me home alone. I have memories since I was 5 years old spending my days trying to occupy myself with something. I didn't care for dolls and there was no TV or cell phones. So I used to take my mother's lipstick and paint on the wall a huge bright sun & a tiny house in front of it.
And then I will paint more suns all over the wall until the lipstick was gone. And then I'll continue with a pencil on and on. This is how I started painting. And because I was missing having sisters around to play with - I was adding some people in these "drawings".
These are my earliest memories with my fascination about the sunlight & my longing for love & togetherness.
Life is changing, we change constantly. Along the way I met many people on my life path and it seems, I tend to remember & embrace mostly the people who are like a sunshine. I call them "the sunshine people". The moments, we experienced together were my blissful moments. The world was brighter because of the sunshine people who radiate warmths, cheer and happiness.
So what is the SUNSHINE COLLECTION about? It is the warm caress of sunlight after long winter months. It is energy, shared moments, smiles and love.

About Varya
Varya McMillan is an MFA graduate from Sophia Art Academy and a recipient of many local and national awards.
